History of The Egyptian Naval Academy

The Egyptian Naval Academy has its roots in the establishment of the “Naval Training School” in 1921 during the reign of King Fuad I. The school was initially established to train sailors and petty officers for the Egyptian Navy. It aimed to provide basic training in seamanship and naval operations.

Over the years, the training school evolved and expanded its curriculum to include officer training. In 1938, the school was upgraded to the “Royal Egyptian Naval Academy,” reflecting its focus on producing officers for the NNavy. It continued to grow and improve its facilities and curriculum to meet the changing needs of the Navy.

Following the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, which led to the establishment of a republic, the academy changed alignment with the new political landscape. The Academy’s name was changed to the “Naval College” and then to the “Naval Military Academy.” During this period, the Academy continued to train naval officers for service in the Egyptian Navy.

The Egyptian Naval Academy underwent modernization efforts in subsequent years to align its training with contemporary naval practices and technologies. The Academy was established adequately at Ras El-Teen in October 1946, but in 1965, it moved to its current location in Abu Qir, Alexandria, Egypt.

When the first intake of 50 cadets occurred, the group joined the military academy for six months to receive their basic training before finishing their academic requirements at the Naval Academy for two years. The application of specialty in maritime navigation, missiles, artillery, underwater weapons, marine signal, and coastal artillery now extended the study to four years.

In 1988, a collaborative initiative was launched between the Egyptian Naval College and the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. This initiative aimed to create practical teaching approaches offer workshops, and supply model educational tools. Additionally, efforts were directed toward enhancing recreational facilities to align with top-notch naval colleges globally.

This collaboration significantly contributed to the advancement of the Egyptian Naval College. It involved integrating state-of-the-art American educational methods, simulators, and scientific models. Furthermore, specialized laboratories and training support were introduced to facilitate comprehensive training.

Throughout its history, the Egyptian Naval Academy has continued to produce officers who contribute to the strength and capabilities of the Egyptian Navy. These officers safeguard Egypt’s maritime interests, participate in international naval exercises, and collaborate with other navies to maintain maritime security.
